Shortly after you leave the University, your student @cam.ac.uk account will be terminated. Thereafter, you will be entitled to use the lifetime alumni email service provided by the Alumni Office.
Your address will look like:
your.name@kings.cantab.net
You will also automatically receive a cantab.net email address:
your.name@cantab.net
As well as being a useful continuation of your University identity and an easy way to keep in touch with your peers, the address will also come in very useful in the next phase of your life:
The Independent: "A recent survey of HR managers by Yahoo! found that 51 per cent would be put off by a candidate who had a "wacky" e-mail address. Although a university e-mail account is perfectly acceptable, it may cause you problems on graduation, when the address expires."
Your cantab.net account will never expire.
Account Options
These email addresses have two account types - Webmail and Enhanced:
- Webmail - A FREE FOR LIFE email account offering email forwarding and webmail-only access to a limited 100MB account. You can also use this servic to forward your mail elsewhere.
- Enhanced - A fully featured email service starting from 2000MB (up to 10GB) supporting full connectivity via POP3/IMAP/Mobile Phone/SMTP. After a long free trial period this account is maintained for just £6/year.
All of this years leavers automatically receive 12 months FREE sponsored membership to the Enhanced account level, giving enough storage space to migrate univerity data and fully trial the service. Applications from past alumni will still receive 3 months free Enhanced-level service.
